For those who want to go to language school in London, there are lots of options. It's hard to make a decision when you have so many options. While there are a lot of factors to consider, like the course location, course hours, and the number of students, the most important one is the price. This city isn't cheap, so neither are the courses...
The week I moved here, I started a language course and went every day between 9:00-12:00, five days a week. As a B2 student, I finished the course as a C1. These levels don't really represent your language skills 100% because sometimes you speak well but your grammar is terrible (that terrifying dream we call grammar!). It's also possible that you can't speak fluently due to a lack of practice while you're good at listening. So your level could be B2 one place, but C1 somewhere else. I'm not sure how accurate such a classification is, but I gained much more knowledge and skills than I had in Turkey over the past few years. It's true that there are so many supportive factors like being exposed to English every day, chatting with friends from other countries in class, etc. I can't deny it, but looking back, it was a training that I got a lot out of in so little time. It's my job to let you know all the details, as your London friend!
It's a fact that I like academic life, having earned a bachelor's and two master's degrees in thirty-two years. That's why I wanted to do language education in a university environment, instead of a London course. My favorite thing is being a student! In this city, the campus environment was more appealing to me. I fell in love with Regent's University London while researching it on the website because it's located across Regent's Park, one of the most beautiful places in the city! It's a private university in London that's popular, especially for postgraduate programs. It's like a dream to be on the campus of this university, which hosts students from all over the world. While I was there, I worked with other students in the library, ate lunch in the cafeteria, and stayed after class. When you register for the course, you already get a student card. No different from other students, you can use all the school's privileges with this card. I was looking for something like this.
In general, the class has a maximum of 15 students, and the average age is 20-25, since most of these people plan to continue their education at this university after language school. They're in a kind of preparation stage. Also, the school helps with accommodation, you can stay in the dormitories on campus.
The courses are divided into general English (15 hours a week) and intensive English (21 hours a week). I preferred general English because I wanted my day to be mine after class. It was a quick walk from the university to Baker Street (Sherlock Holmes' location), so I could go anywhere after class. I'm glad I picked this place, both in terms of the lessons and the friends I made. After taking the course, I started expressing myself much better in interviews, and when the course was over, I got a job as a marketing executive! What do you think about discussing that under the heading "How did I get a job in London?")
You should definitely check out this place if you're looking for a language course that fits your budget. In the application form, you pick the level you want. A 10-15 minute meeting is then held on Teams. Basically, they're just getting to know you and checking whether you're suitable for the level you've chosen based on the sentences you've formed. During the first week, you can request a change if your level isn't right. All that matters is that you feel comfortable and take classes that are right for you. They make you feel this all the time.
Here's more info about the courses and prices.
During your stay here, I hope you improve your language and have fun!
