You may live or visit London, but how much do you know about it? Here's what you need to know and frequently asked questions about London.

One of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, London, is located in the south-east of England. Along with Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, England is part of the United Kingdom.

In terms of density and population, it's the largest city in the UK. Based on 2022 data, London has about 10 million people, including you.

The City of London is part of Greater London, an administrative district that includes 32 boroughs. It's the most historic part of central London, making up the City of London. In addition to the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, and St Paul's Cathedral, it has modern skyscrapers like The Gherkin, "The Walkie-Talkie" (20 Fenchurch Street), and The Cheesegrater (12 Leadenhall Street).

What's the transportation like?

London has 9 zones, but most of the places you'll go will be in zones 1-6. In the first region, you're closest to the city center, and as the number goes up, you'll move away. In this city, people generally don't prefer the 1st and 2nd districts because of the cost and crowdedness.

Here are some transportation tips.

Getting around London is easy no matter where you are. About 15-20 minutes' walk from your location is a metro station (we call it tube). Getting lost is impossible now that you never leave your phone at home. Get City Mapper for free now (it's not an ad, it's more useful than Google or Apple Maps) and put in your location. Depending on what mode of transportation you want, this app will give you all the information. In fact, when you set off, you'll see which stops you're at, and the app will let you know when you're close. In London, the address is equal to the postal code. When you enter the postal code in all systems, your registered address shows up.

You don't have to worry if my phone doesn't pick up in the subway because there's information on every platform. When you get on and off the train or subway, you have to tap on and off your ticket, so don't be surprised if the bus only taps on.

In terms of tickets, the vending machine era is over. If you want to take advantage of student discounts, then there are balance or monthly cards called Oyster Cards. Rather, credit and debit cards save lives. You can define your card on your phone or smartwatch, which is really handy. No more hunting for the card in your bag :)

Meanwhile, you may have to follow the railway strikes on the TFL site and take the bus because recent strikes by rail workers can cause disruptions. Most of London's transport network is managed by TFL, a local government body. Sign up with your e-mail address if you can't always check in, because they share all the info beforehand.

Highway traffic can be really bad between 7:30-9:00 in the morning and 17:00-19:00 in the evening, called rush hour. If you're going to travel for tourist reasons, I'd suggest avoiding these times. As a result, you'll pay less for transportation and you won't have to deal with crowds.

Also, Uber is an option, download the app and have an alternative.

Get outside and walk around!
